No Liquor Sales on Election Day! UPDATE!

LIQUOR SALE UPDATE!
The Belize Police Department has issued a press release regarding the sale of liquor. Their decision overrides the decision announced early this morning by the San Pedro Liquor Licensing Board posted below. Please read with attention:

-Press Release - In collaboration with the Municipal Elections scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 2009, the San Pedro Police Formation would like to inform the general public and all liquor license premises holders, that on Election Day(reference to S.I. 33 of 2009, Town Council Registration of Electors and Elections amendments regulation 2009, Regulation 146 2 (a)which came into effect on February 25, 2009) the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited from 6:00a.m. until after the counting of ballots. A fine of $2,000Bze or imprisonment of 6 months will be imposed on those who are found contravening this amended regulation. Police will be in full enforcement of this Regulation. - End of Release -

Please take not that the counting of ballots usually concludes on the early morning hours of Thursday, the day after elections.

- Press Release, San Pedro Liquor Licensing Board - The San Pedro Liquor Licensing Board hereby informs liquor license holders and the public that no liquor will be sold on Election Day March 4th, 2009 from 7:00 a.m. to 6p.m. Any establishment found selling liquor will result in immediate cancellation of their liquor license.
