Halloween Fun at Island Academy

 The students at Island Academy went to school this morning all dressed up in their Halloween costumes for a fun day that started with a costume competition during morning assembly. Ambergris Today was a guest judge and students from each class were awarded with the Most Creative, Scariest, Funniest and Fairest Maiden title. It was such a wonderful event as each student put time an effort to look their best for Halloween at Island Academy. Happy Halloween

Chris E. Inspires Island Academy Students

During the first day of school, The Island Academy enjoyed an inspiring presentation by artist and author Chris Emmanuel. Emmanuel reminded the students "Not to judge a book by its cover" and surprised the assembly with a treasure trove of useful items from an otherwise plain grocery package. He encouraged students to always do their best and sometimes take risks to try something new. Emmanuel built confidence and encouraged the students to rejoice in Back to School Time, as part of his "Secrets to Life," a weekly column in the Ambergris Today Newspaper.

Pirate Party Fundraiser, Island Academy

On Friday, May 28, to celebrate the end of school and plans for next year, The Island Academy is planning a pirate party called TREASURE ISLAND ACADEMY. From 6:00 to 10:00 pm, families are invited to enjoy Bingo, Karaoke, Chalupa, and beach bowling, while adults are invited to play Blackjack, Poker, and Roulette. Costumes are encouraged! Prizes from local sponsors will be awarded throughout the evening! The Barry Bowen Bar will feature favorite drinks. Proceeds will support the book order for the 2010-11 school year. Yo Ho Ho and bottle of Belikin!

Luau Party at Island Academy Tonight!

ALOHA! Families and adults are invited to enjoy a “Party in Paradise” on Friday, February 26. The Island Academy is having a festive luau featuring great food and fun for all ages. There will be BINGO, Karaoke, Roulette Wheel, Blackjack, Chalupa en Espanol, and even the Limbo!Feast will feature pibil pork, shrimp skewers, and grilled mini-burgers. There will be prizes from Chan Chich Lodge, Heaven’s Hair & Nails, Toucan Fly, and others, for Most Hawaiian Costume, Bingo, and Chalupa (for all ages), and Blackjack and Routlette Wheel (adults only).
Tickets are being sold by Island Academy students and Staff--advance fee $5. Come enjoy math games--and the hula!--for kids and adults on Friday, Feb. 26, 7 pm - 11 pm, on campus on Coconut Drive. Dress up for the Best Hawaiian Costume prize! Food, soda, beer, and bar drinks will be for sale.

Island Academy's Christmas Special

We would like to thank the Island Academy for inviting Ambergris Today to their Annual Christmas Special. We had a great time listening to great music, enjoying all the dances, skits and presentations. It was a spectacular show overfilled with Christmas Cheer and Holiday Spirit. Congratulations on another great show!

AT Editor Addresses Island Academy

Yesterday I had the privilege to address the student body of The Island Academy during their morning assembly. I was invited to talk about myself and Ambergris Today Newspaper. It was a very fulfilling experience as the students were very interested and had so many questions on how the newspaper operates and all the inner workings of the business. They had very intellectual questions and seemed to enjoy themselves, as did I. Thank you Teacher Helen for inviting me to your morning assembly; it was my pleasure to have addressed the students of The Island Academy. I had a great time. – Dorian Nuñez

Students Take Flight!

Before school let out for the summer, Standard 4 at The Island Academy visited Tropic Air to culminate their studies of aviation history and the science of flight. Head Mechanic Mike Arnott showed the students around the hangar while Captain Jerald Leslie challenged them to a paper airplane contest-- Captain Jerald won for design and distance!

Reef Week Concludes

As Reef Week comes to a close today, Ambergris Caye Elementary and Island Academy held short skit presentations yesterday, May 7 at the Lions Den. The performances were all to create awareness of our Belizean Coral Reef and ways that we can protect it.

Be Kind Belize Program

Ms. Colette Kase has been teaching Humane Education through a program called Be Kind Belize and in the program children are taught the importance of treating other living creatures with kindness and respect.The Standard III class of Island Academy took the program and on Monday, April 27, the children had their final class with Ms. Kase where they performed skits with hand-made paper puppets for the class to enjoy. After their presentations the children were awarded with their certificates to end the program.Any principal wanting to have this program in their school can contact Ms. Colette Kase at 226-4366 or 624-8251.
