Eco Flight Tours South Ambergris

By invitation of ACCSD (Ambergris Caye Citizens for Sustainable Development) Eco Flight, an organization for Education and Advocacy for the Environment, became involved in San Pedro’s concern for the protection of the environment. This follows a fight against South Beach’s proposed plan for a mega development project down South in the Hol Chan Reserve Area which ACCSD feels will destroy the reef, Hol Chan Marine Reserve, and the mangrove habitat for marine life.

Bruce Gordon, President of Eco Flight and Jane Pargiter, program Coordinator and Office Manager carried out a surveillance flight over the town of San Pedro and the area in question. Present in the flight was Ambergris Today representing the San Pedro media and stakeholders of ACCSD. While Eco Flight will make appraisal and recommendations to ACCSD, Ambergris Today did not observe any signs of dredging nor cutting of mangroves. This is a relief for ACCSD as it would seem that their fight commenced at an opportune time before any major damage has occurred.
