Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) has restored power to the Northern Zone, which includes the entire Corozal District, Orange Walk District and San Pedro, and to the Central Zone, which includes Belize City and Ladyville.
At 1:38 p.m., today power supply was lost to these areas when Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) in Mexico, experienced a trip on its system, which triggered a trip on BEL’s national grid, resulting in a power outage affecting the Northern and Central Zones.
At the time of the power outage, BEL was carrying out system maintenance on the Western 115 kV transmission line and therefore had isolated the Northern and Central Zones.
At 2:19 p.m., power supply was restored to the Corozal and Orange Walk Districts, to Belize City at 2:35 p.m. and to San Pedro Town at 2:47 p.m. BEL is working to restore power supply to the area which includes a portion of Ladyville to Mile 35 along the Northern Highway, villages in the Belize River Valley and villages along the Old Northern Highway, which are expected to come back online by 5:00 p.m. Power supply was restored to other areas on the Ladyville Feeder at 3:30 p.m.
BEL apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the power outage.
