Celebrating Barry Bowen’s Life


His official name is Sir Barry Bowen since he was anointed a Knight of the British Empire by the Queen of England in 1997. But to everyone present on Monday, March 01, 2010, at Sir Barry’s Memorial Celebration of Life at the Island Academy he was simply Barry.

Many speakers eulogized Sir Barry Bowen at a memorial service Monday at The Island Academy. From Bowen's adult children to Hon. Manuel Heredia, Minister of Aviation, many spoke about Bowen's life of service to Belize and his energy for living life to the fullest. His son Zander gave a heartfelt history of the young family who also lost their lives in the tragedy, Mike Casey, wife Jill, and two daughters.

The list of orators included Raymond Bowers, who was also the Master of Ceremonies, Hon. Manuel Heredia, Area Rep and Minister of Tourism, Dennis Woodriff, Wolfram Koehler, Johnny Grief, Henry Beissner, Shelly Stonesifer, Michael Bowen, Zander Bowen, Dustin Bowen, and Ms. Courtney Bowen.

Sir Barry is survived by his loving wife Dixie Bowen and his six children (Shelley Stonesifer, Kevin, Michael, Zander, Dustin and Courtney) and ten grandchildren. Sir Barry is also survived by his brother Bruce Bowen and his sister Pamela Pull.

The funeral of the late Sir Barry Bowen takes place today Tuesday, March 2, at 10:00a.m. at the St. John’s Cathedral on Albert Street in Belize City. His coffin will be transported by the Belize Defense Force Hearst from Belize City to the San Ignacio Cemetery were his body will be laid to rest and the official wreath laying and graveside honors will be bestowed.
