One golf cart rental on the island finds itself short of one golf cart, as the San Pedro Fire Department reports that at about 1:50a.m. this morning a cart belonging to Island Adventures suddenly burst into flames in front of Grand Colony Island Villas, south of San Pedro Town. Fire Chief explains that the residents who rented the golf cart were caught by surprise when they noticed the cart seat getting warm. Upon making checks on the vehicle, it suddenly burst into flames. The fire completely consumed the golf cart reducing it to just its metal chassis; everything else, including the roof and body was burnt down to a pile of plastic goo. Responding to the urgent needs in Haiti, the students and staff of Holy Cross Anglican School have been working hard to raise money. On Friday, January 22, two fund raisers were held at the school. The first, a Rags Day, raised $512.05BZ. Later that same day a Cheap Sale of donated items generated $155.00BZ. On Sunday at the Family Worship Service, the offering of $199.80BZ was also earmarked for Earthquake Relief. In total, Holy Cross will be donating $866.85BZto the nation of Haiti.
The San Pedro Lions Club had a successful fundraising event, yesterday Sunday, January 24, as residents attended their drive to raise money for the victims of Haiti’s earthquake. There was plenty of food and drinks on sale, including a clothes and shoe sale and Bingo. Rompe Raja was there for the live entertainment.
Mayor Elsa Paz made the announcement at this morning's Good Morning San Pedro Radio Show that the San Pedro Town Council and the San Pedro Police Department have reinstated a 9 o'clock curfew for children 16 years old and younger. This curfew takes place immediately and runs from 9p.m. Sunday to Thursday all night long and starts an hour later on Friday and Saturday at 10p.m. The San Pedro Police Department makes notice that a number of crimes are being committed by underage children and that this curfew is one incentive to deter crime on the island. The Justice of the Peace Committee has pledged their support to conduct patrols along with the Police Officers. First offenders will be taken into police custody and his/her parents will be given a warning. After the first warning parents can be arrested if their child breaks the curfew laws multiple times.
A fundraiser for cancer patient Edwin "Wings" Gamez is being held at the Lions Den, tomorrow Saturday, January 23. It will commence at 4p.m. with a food sale; drinks will be available. Each food purchase gives you the opportunity to participate in a raffle with great prizes all night long.
After being diagnosed with cancer, Edwin and his family were informed that he would need immediate chemotherapy for his condition. A northern Island resident was evacuated to the Belize City Hospital last night as he suffered a fall that apparently caused spinal injuries as he was having difficulties moving his limbs and other body parts. The BATSUB helicopter was called to the island and the injured man was rush out of the island at about 7:30p.m. last night, Monday, February 18.
Fisherman and tour guide Abner Marin is on the international spotlight once again as he joins country music star and outdoorsman/sports fishing enthusiast Daniel Lee Martin bone fishing in Ambergris Caye.
