SPHS Celebrates Angel Nuñez' Birthday

It's a tradition that has been adopted for many years now, the senior class of San Pedro High plans a big birthday bash for Mr. Angel Nuñez. Even though Mr. Nuñez is now retired, the students and staff still feel it in their hearts to throw him a big party. Today he was called to the school compound where the students organized presentations to entertain him. Mr. Nuñez celebrates his 59th birthday tomorrow, December 5, 2009. Happy Birthday!

San Pedro’s prominent writer and author of “Twenty Five Years Ago” addressed the students of standards five and six at Isla Bonita Elementary School. The address was possible upon an invitation of Teacher Sharon, the head teacher for standard five. Students at that institution are using the book “Twenty Five Years Ago” as an extra resource English/reading book. After completing the reading of the early chapters, Angel Nuñez was invited to talk about some aspects of life in San Pedro in the past.

Mr. Nuñez commented that the children were so enthused in asking a variety of questions that the dismissal bell was rung and they kept pouring out with questions. “They wanted to know about doctors, school, teachers, boats, ice, electricity, midwives, food, cost of living, and most important what young people and children did to entertain themselves,” said Angel Nuñez.

Author Nuñez says he is grateful and honored that San Pedro High School and Isla Bonita are using and benefitting from his writings and recollections of San Pedro in the past. He invites everyone living in San Pedro to read the book and use history to help us better live in the present.

Spotlight on San Pedro

Social writer and historian, and author of Twenty Five Years ago in San Pedro Angel Nuñez, has taken San Pedro on the spotlight for our learning public once again. Receiving much attention and acclamation for his popular writings of Twenty Five Years Ago on Ambergris Today, Angel Nunez was invited by Love F.M producer of Belize Watch, Rene Villanueva, to appear in his nightly show and talk about the San Pedro of the past so that people from all over Belize and newcomers to this country would get to appreciate the roots of Ambergris Caye, The village of San Pedro and the life of the Mestizos in Belize. Belize Watch will be re-aired on Coral Cable Vision local channel 8 this coming Tuesday and Wednesday at 9 a.m. and again at 7 p.m. Tune in for this exciting documentary and remember that copies of this book are still available in stores around San Pedro.
