Queen of the Bay Contestants Visit SP

Ten beautiful contestants of the Queen of the Bay pageant arrived this morning in San Pedro, along with the reigning queen Miss Reena Usher for a short visit to tour the island as part of their activities prior to pageant night.

The contestants were greeted by Deputy Mayor Pablo Ico along with other members of the San Pedro Town Council and Mr. Eiden Salazar of the Reef Radio. The Queen of the Bay Pageant takes place this Saturday, September 4 at 7:00p.m. at Byrd’s Isle in Belize City.


Councilors Pablo Ico and Juan Alamilla present the contestants with gifts on behalf of the San Pedro Town Council. They were hosted for lunch at BC's Bar & Grill.

Drowning Incident, North Ambergris Caye

Reports coming into our office since last night are that a resort maintenance worker drowned last night in an incident that took place at a pier after a night of partying. Gregorio Cornejo, 60-year-old, maintenance worker of a resort in North Ambergris Caye, drowned after he was pushed off a pier during a drunken scramble that involved three people. The men were apparently drinking during a staff party when the incident occurred. Cornejo’s body was transported to Belize City where an autopsy will be conducted and as of press time four people have been detained for questioning at the San Pedro Police Department. Mayor Elsa Paz Joins Oceana at Mississippi Gulf Coast

Audrey Matura-Shephard sent over these pictures of the press conference held yesterday by Oceana in Gulfport Mississsipi. Mayor Elsa Paz of San Pedro, Belize, expressed grave concern about the impact that offshore exploration will have on her island community of Ambergris Caye. She joined Oceana, Nautica and celebrities in Gulfport to lend support for the Gulf of Mexico Research Expedition. (Read More)
